Class Descriptions

 

 

 Learning at Yarnings

 

Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.

 

Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.

 

Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 

 

And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!

 

 

 

Groups
 

 

Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.

Tuesday Morning Knit Group This group meets weekly for help and inspiration.  Join others who enjoy chatting and sharing projects.

 

Cost:                                              $10 per session

Skill Level:                                   Beginner and Intermediate

 

 

Wednesday Night  Knit and Crochet Group – This group meets weekly and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen.

 

Cost:                                                   $10.00 per Session

Classes

 

 

 

Granny Triangle- Learn to crochet a simple granny triangle.  Crochet chain and double crochet will be taught.  One skein of fingering weight yarn will result in a nice sized kerchief or use two skeins for a shawl.  Either makes a wonderful fall accessory!

Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving-  This four session course covers all  the beginning steps for basic weaving.  From warping the loom to calculating yarn yardage needed to learning basic weaving and finishing techniques,  this class will prepare you to use a rigid heddle loom efficiently.  The class fee includes instruction, loom rental fee, and the first warp on the loom.

Cost:                                               $70

Knitted Pumpkins- Add some whimsy to your fall decor by taking this three session class which will cover making two different pumpkins- one in plaid and one with cables.  Double-pointed needles will be used to knit these gourds in the round.  the third class will cover stuffing a pumpkin, attaching a stem, and will include some Pinterest-worthy refreshments!

Log Cabin Mitts- In  this two session class,m knit these highly addictive mitts, made in traditional log cabin style.  Simple garter stitch is used throughout.  students will practice picking up stitches, learn simple decrease methods at the thumbs, and master a three-needle bind off.

Cost:                                              $35

Skill Level:                                   Advanced Beginner

 

 

Mosaic Cowl- Perfectly suitable for a beginning knitter- if you can knit and purl, you can make this cowl!  the color work looks complicated, but only one strand is used at a time.  Quick and easy- great to start on Christmas presents!

Weekender Knit-Along- This simple pullover is suitable for a first sweater project!  This boxy sweater has minimal shaping and looks great on everyone!  The sweater is knit mostly in the round from bottom to top and features a faux seam on the center front and back.  A few rounds of short rows near the shoulders serve as a great introduction to shaping.

Woven Bracelets- In two sessions, students will learn the fundamentals of weaving on a small loom.  Techniques will be practiced to make a small bracelet - perfect for yourself or for a holiday gift!
