Class Descriptions

 Learnings at Yarnings

 

 

 

Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.

 

Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.

 

Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 

 

And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!

 

 

 

Groups
 

Drop in Knit and Crochet - Join Kathleen on Thursday mornings for a relaxed and pleasant time to enjoy the needle craft of your choice.  Bring your project in knit or crochet and receive advice and help as you chat and chuckle.

 

Cost:                                            $10 per session

 

Tme/Date/Instructor:    Thursdays November 6,13,20 and December 11 and 18 from 11-1

 

Skill Level:                              Beginner to Intermediate

 

Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.

 

Cost:                                                    $10.00 per Session

Skill Level:                                        Beginner to Intermediate

 


Mary Beth’s Open Knit Group- This group meets about once a month and is for beginning and intermediate knitters. Mary Beth is available for help with projects that students have chosen. The atmosphere is light and social  Come have some fun!!

 

Cost:                                               $10 per Session

Kids Knit Club- This group is geared for young knitters who have basic knitting knowledge.  The group is tailored to help young knitters expand their skills.  Students work on individual projects.

 

Cost:  $10

Skill Level:  Beginner

 

Saturday Morning Knit Group – This group usually meets twice a month and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen while socializing with other knitters. Please call the store to check on available spots for this class.

Classes

 

 

Beginner Knits:  Always wanted to knit?  This course is for you  The two sessions allow ample time to learn the knit stitch, the purl stitch, the cast on, and the bind off.  After practicing, you will choose a project and receive guidance as you complete it.  All this in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

 

Cost:                                            $35

Skill Level:                                           Absolute Beginner

 

Beginner Knits :   Learn the basics of knitting in this tw0-session class including  cast on, knit and purl stitches, and binding off.  Time permitting, we will also explore a few basic combinations of knit and purl.

 

Cost:                                                   $30

Skill Level:                                           Absolute Beginner

 

Beginning Weaving- This is a comprehensive course in the basic techniques of weaving on a rigid heddle loom.  Learn dressing the loom, yarn calculations, weaving tips and pointers, finishing and color experimentation.  Rent the loom from us for the duration of the course. 

 

Cost                                                 $70 (includes rental, instruction, and initiasl materials pack)

Skill Level:                                               Absolute Beginner

 

Building in Color II– If you loved Building Blocks, you will love Building in Color. This is a course designed to help you master the basics of color knitting one strip at a time. Intarsia, knit below, mosaic knitting, and elongated stitch patterns are some of the skills taught.  Move at your own pace and watch your blanket grow!

Skill Level:                                       Advanced Beginner

                 

Button Bracelet - Learn to make this vintage-inspired bracelet, using just a few simple techniques.  Pull out Grandma's button box and have some fun!

Holiday Pillow:  In this two-session class, students will knit a pillow following an easy stitch pattern.  The pillow will be embellished and finished in the second class.  Just in time for holiday gift giving and decorating.

 

Cost:  $40

 

Time/Date/Instructor:  Fridays, November 14 and December 5 from 1-3:30 or Saturdays, November 15

                                            and November 29 from 1-3:30 with Sandra

Holiday Star Garland:  In this one-session class, students will learn to knit the six-pointed star which serves as the beautiful foundation in this holiday garland.  Students will learn basic short-row shaping while knitting this star.

 

Cost:  $25

Knit Bead Bracelet- This beautiful design is a cuff style with overall beading.  The knitting is simple and the results are dramatic. In fact, this bracelet should come with a warninig...could be habit-forming!

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

 

Mittens:  Hard to think about being cold right now, but the chill is coming.   Enjoy it wearing your own hand-knit mittens.  You will learn ribbing, a simple thumb gusset, and working in the round.  These are quick and cute gifts as well!

Simple Socks - These socks are quick and easy! They feature tube construction and an afterthought heel (no dreaded heel turn!) They are the perfect first socks.
