 Learnings at Yarnings

 

 

 

Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.

 

Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.

 

Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 

 

And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!

 

 

 

Groups
 

 

Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.

Skill Level:                                        Beginner to Intermediate

 

Saturday Morning Knit Group – This group usually meets twice a month and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen while socializing with other knitters. Please call the store to check on available spots for this class.

Classes

 

 Baby Wrap Sweater- This baby sweater is knit from cuff  to cuff in easy garter stitch.  There are many options on this one, including adding stripes, ruffles, or an I-cord edging.

Skill Level:                                     Advanced beginner

 

 

Bed Socks -Experience all the traditional steps in sock construction on steroids!  Using a larger gauge yarn will assure quick finishing of a cozy pair of chunky socks for thr cold winter ahead!

Skill Level:                                 Advanced Beginner

 

Beginner Knits :   Learn the basics of knitting in this tw0-session class including  cast on, knit and purl stitches, and binding off.  Time permitting, we will also explore a few basic combinations of knit and purl.

Skill Level:                                           Absolute Beginner

 

Beginning Weaving- This comprehensive beginner course offers all the technique needed to complete woven projects on our Cricket looms.  You will learn the yarn calculations to warp the loom, warping technique, weaving patterns, and finishing skills.  The price includes the instruction, loom rental, and first warp yarn.  What a deal!!

Skill Level:                                       Absolute Beginner

 

 

Building Blocks:  This ongoing course teaches various stitch patterns and the techniques that produce them. The course is self-paced and,in the end, the blocks that you knit are joined to create a beautiful heirloom blanket.  What a fun way to improve your skills!

Brioche Cowl - Called the stitch of the year, brioche has become a popular two-color knitting technique.  Completely reversible fabric is created with slipped stitch patterning.  The cowls for this class are a simple introduction to the method and a more advanced application of the technique.  Choose one or both and have some fun!!

Building in Color II– If you loved Building Blocks, you will love Building in Color. This is a course designed to help you master the basics of color knitting one strip at a time. Intarsia, knit below, mosaic knitting, and elongated stitch patterns are some of the skills taught.  Move at your own pace and watch your blanket grow!

Bunny Nuggets- These bunnies are quick fun projects for decorating or gift-giving.  Knitters will work with double-pointed needles to create the bunnies, which will then be embellished with easy embroidery and pom-pom tails!

Skill Level:                                         Advanced Beginner

 

Lochlyn Shawl- This triangular shawl is simple but entertaining to knit.  The alternating colorways combine with a simple stitch pattern to give dramatic results.  Half the fun is choosing the look that you want to knit!

Luna Viridis- This stylish cowl begins as a semi-circular shawl and is then joined to form a circular cowl.  The pattern has sliver moon shapes in alternating texture stripes with garter stitch bands.  this is a fun knit with a practical shape.

Posh Bunnies- Come to class with a 10" knitted square and leave with a pretty bunny.  You will knit the ears, make a pom pom tail , and learn seaming to finish the bunny body.  Tie a pretty bow around the neck and leave class with a perfect baby gift!

Scrap Series-Intrigued by creative uses for small amounts of yarn?  The scrap series will take a light-hearted look at small seasonal projects.  These one-session classes will be featured each month with a different theme.  Come knit and chuckle along!

Snowy Owl-  This sweet, snowy owl is fun to knit, with gentle shaping and an easy stitch pattern.  Knitters will have the opportunuty to knit in the round and use double-pointed needles.
