Class Descriptions

 

 Learning at Yarnings

 

Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.

 

Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.

 

Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 

 

And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!

 

 Private Lessons

We at Yarnings want you to find a learning environment that matches your style.  Our private lessons are inexpensive and offer a one-on-one session with one of our talented and friendly instructors.  These times can be tailored to your needs: beginning knitting or crochet, help finishing a particular project, help starting a project, help with a specific technique- it's all up to you!  Call us  to set up a time for you or a time for you and a friend!

 

Groups
 

 

Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.

Tuesday Morning Knit Group This group meets weekly for help and inspiration.  Join others who enjoy chatting and sharing projects.

Wednesday Morning Knit Group Join fellow knitters to work on your current projects.  Jackie is there to answer your questions and to help you make project choices.

Please call the store in advance to sign up for classes.  All class supplies will be available at the store for purchase.

 

Beginning Knit- This two-session class will have you knitting stylish projects.  The knit and purl stitches will be taught, along with casting on stitches and binding off your work.  Learn this life-long craft!

Beginning Weaving- This introductory course covers all the basics of rigid heddle weaving.  Dressing the loom, yarn choices and yardage, weaving techniques, finishing , and design concepts are all presented.  This course is a great bargain!  Four weeks of instruction, the loom rental, and the first warp are all included in the price.  Come and try it out!

Skill Level:  Abolute Beginner

 

Bojagi Shawl- Bojagi (Korean for a square fabric wrapper) is a pretty spring shawl knit in sections encompassing mosaic, lace, and garter stitches.  This three-session KAL will guide knitters through the mosaic section and the set-up for the lace.  Have it finished in time to wrap yourself up for spring!

Cost:                                          $10 per session

Dates/Times/Instructor:  Fridays, March 20,27, and April 10  from 1:30-3:00 with Sandra

Skill Level:                               Advanced Beginner

 

Decorative Felted Pouch- Decorate a small felted pouch for yourself or for a gift.  Pouch is embellished using needle felting techniques, embroidery, and beads.

Skill Level:                                  Absolute Beginner

 

Fixing Mistakes- This single-session class is designed to give knitters the skills and the confidence to identify knitting mistakes and ways to fix them.

Skill Level:                             Beginner/ Advanced Beginner

 

Modern Wrapper KAL- The Modern Wrapper is an oversized piece that  walks the line between snuggly and sweet, cozy and chic.  This cardigan is designed with thoughtful details to fit well and drape softly to flatter every figure.

Cost:                                            $10 per session

Skill Level:                                Advanced Beginner

 

Ravelry 101- Ravelry is a social media website that is designed for knitters, crocheters, designers, weaves, dyers and spinners.  It is a place to search patterns and yarns, keep track of yarns, tools, and project information.  It is a constant source of inspiration and ideas.  This class will learn how to set up their own project pages, search for patterns and yarns, record  their stash and manage their pattern library.  Follow-along handouts will be provided.

Tools:                                           a fully charged laptop or tablet, your Ravelry login information, a skein of yarn you would like ot stash and a commercial                                                          pattern that you would like to add to your library

Ravelry 102- Learn more about Ravelry!  This session will focus on connecting with people and sharing in the crafty community. Follow along handouts will be provided.
