Class Descriptions

 

 

 Learning at Yarnings

 

Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.

 

Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.

 

Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 

 

And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!

 

 Private Lessons

We at Yarnings want you to find a learning environment that matches your style.  Our private lessons are inexpensive and offer a one-on-one session with one of our talented and friendly instructors.  These times can be tailored to your needs: beginning knitting or crochet, help finishing a particular project, help starting a project, help with a specific technique- it's all up to you!  Call us  to set up a time for you or a time for you and a friend!

 

Groups
 

 

Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.

Tuesday Morning Knit Group This group meets weekly for help and inspiration.  Join others who enjoy chatting and sharing projects.

 

Cost:                                              $10 per session

Wednesday Night  Knit and Crochet Group – This group meets weekly and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen.

 

Cost:                                                   $10.00 per Session

Classes

Please call the store in advance to sign up for classes.  All class supplies will be available at the store for purchase.

 

Beaded Bracelet - Learn to use a simple bead loom to make a multi-color , patterned bracelet.  Warp the loom, weave, and learn to finish your bracelet in this class.  Ready in time for gift-giving!

Cost:                                                 $35

Dates/Instructor/Times:        Sundays, December 2 and 9 from 11-12 with Steph

Skill Level:                                      Beginner

 

Beginning Knit- This two-session class will have you knitting stylish projects.  The knit and purl stitches will be taught, along with casting on stitches and binding off your work.  Learn this life-long craft!

Cost:                                              $30 

Dates/Time/Instructor:          Sundays, February 10 and 17 from 1:30-3:30 with Steph

                                                                  Saturdays January 5 and 19 from 10-12 with Rachel

Skill Level:                                   Absolute Beginner

 

Brioche Workshop-Learn the basics of two-color brioche in the round at this single session workshop.  Student will start an easy brioche cowl. (A small amount of homework is required before the workshop.)

 

Cost:                                                    $25

Skill Level:                                        Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

 

 

Fairytales Come True Poncho Knit-A-Long- This stylish poncho knit-a-long will be a great opportunity to learn some new techniques including single strand colorwork, twisted rib stitching, German short rows,  and a way to hide all of your colorwork ends without working them all in.  

Cost:                                                   $10 per session

Dates/Times/Instructor:          Fridays, February 15th, March 1st, 15th and 29th from 1:30-3:00

Skill Level:                                       Advanced Beginner

 

First Garment-  This six-part course takes the student through the entire process of making a sweater.  From the cast-on to shaping techniques to finishing, you will learn invaluable skills that can be used in any garment knitting situation.  You will also learn how to fit your garments as you knit them.  Take the plunge! Be a garment girl!

Date/Time/Instructor:             Saturdays,  February 16, 23, and March 2, 9, 16, and 30 from 1-3 with Steph

Skill Level:                                     Advanced Beginner

 

First Time Socks- Learn to make basic socks using double pointed needles.  Class will include working in the round, turning a heel, basic decreases, and grafting a toe.

Skill Level:                                       Advanced Beginner

 

 Gateway to Rustic Cowl- Learn basic colorwork techniques in this three-session class while making a beautiful cowl in the round.  Instruction will also include provisional cast on and three-needle bind off.

Cost:                                                   $45

Date/Time/Instructor:              Fridays, January 11, 18 and February 1  from 1:30-3:30 with Sandra

                                                               Saturdays January 5, 19, and February 16 from 12-2 with Sandra

Skill Level:                                       Advanced Beginner

                               

Intro to Mittens - This class will teach students the basics of knitting in the round, increasing and decreasing, and finishing techniques.  The possibility for adding a mohair thread will also create a double stranded knitting experience with lots of color choices.

 

Cost:                                             $30

Skill Level:                                 Advanced Beginner

 

Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving-  This four session course covers all  the beginning steps for basic weaving.  From warping the loom to calculating yarn yardage needed to learning basic weaving and finishing techniques,  this class will prepare you to use a rigid heddle loom efficiently.  The class fee includes instruction, loom rental fee, and the first warp on the loom.

Skill Level:                                     Beginner

 

Intro to Socks- Take the mystery out of knitting socks! This three-session class will teach a traditional top-down sock.   A simple ribbed cuff, traditional heel turn, usual gusset creation, and toe graft with Kitchner stitch.  you'll be hooked!

Date/Time/ Instructor:             Saturdays, January 26 and February 2 and 9 from 1-3 with Steph

Skill Level:                                      Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

 

Knitting on Two Circular  Needles- In this skill-based class, you will learn how to knit in the round, using two circular needles.  You will also learn how to adapt any circular pattern to use of two circulars.  The project chosen for the class is an adorable hat from Tin Can Knits...new skills and a great finished result!

Cost:                                                  $30

Date/Time/Instructor:            Saturdays January 12 and 26 from 10-12 with Rachel

Skill Level:                                    Advanced Beginner

 

Lucy Hat- This adorable cloche-style hat is a great learning piece.  It is knit on two circular needles and includes some short rows for shaping.  It's just challenging enough without being difficult.  You'll  say "Let it snow!" so you can wear your new hat!

Skill Level:                                     Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

 

 

 Mosaic Cowl-  Enjoy the skill of slipped stitches in this simple two-color cowl.  Knitting  in the round, using only one color at a time produces deceptively complicated looking colorwork.  Perfect for a quick winter  accessory.
