Class Descriptions



 Learning at Yarnings


Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.


Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.


Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 


And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!






Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.


Cost:                                                    $10.00 per Session

Skill Level:                                        Beginner to Intermediate


Saturday Morning Knit Group – This group usually meets twice a month and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen while socializing with other knitters. Please call the store to check on available spots for this class.


Cost:                                               $10.00 per Session

Tuesday Morning Knit Group This group meets weekly for help and inspiration.  Join others who enjoy chatting and sharing projects.

Wednesday Night  Knit and Crochet Group – This group meets weekly and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen.

Arboreal Yoke Sweater -  Trending this season... the yoke sweater!  Come and knit a top down, two color yoke pullover.  You will learn fair isle techniques as well as sweater construction and fitting.  This project begins as a pair of instructional classes and continues as a knit along until completion.  Never done colorwork?  Take our Fair Isle Headband class to get up to speed.

Cost:                                          $35 for the instructional sessions, then $10 per knit-along session

 Skill Level:                              Advanced Beginner with knowledge of Fair Isle


 Beginning Knitting- This two-session class teaches the basics of knitting.  The knit stitch, purl stitch, cast on, and bind off will be covered. Students will practice on a simple project that incorporates the skills taught.

Cost:                                                $35

Skill Level:                                     Absolute Beginner



Beginning Weaving- This four-part beginning course includes instruction in warping, weaving techniques, calculations for sizing and yarn usage, color planning, and finishing.  The cost includes rental of the 15" Cricket loom, instruction, and the first warp of the loom.

Cost:                                        $70

2 Color Brioche-  This is an introductory class in this wonderful two sided knitting technique. Work in the round to make your choice of cowl or hat.

Skill Level:                             Advanced Beginner


Building with Lace-  The newest installment of Michelle Hunter's Building series is here! Building in Lace is a beautiful rectangular shawl knit in the lovely Rylie (baby alpaca, linen and silk!). Learn new skill like the provisional cast on, Japanese lace stitch work, double yarn-overs and more.

                                      $10 a session

Skill Level: Intermediate

Fair Isle Headband-  This class will teach basic two color knitting in the round.  Learn how to keep tension and manage the strands on the wrong side of the work.  This class is also preparation for the Arboreal Yoke sweater class. There will be homework prior to the class.


Cost:                                          $20

Skill Level:                              Advanced Beginner

 Lots o' Socks- Always wanted to learn to knit socks, but didn't want to struggle with double-pointed needles?  This class teaches a traditional sock construction using two circular needles.  See the ease and quickness!

Cost:                                                     $45

Time/Date/Instructor:                  Sundays,  Jan 28, Feb 11, and 18 from 12:30-2  with Margaret

Skill Level:                                          Advanced Beginner


Next Step-  Ready to move past simple knit and purl? This class is the next step after our Beginner Knits Class.  Complete a simple set of fingerless mitts.

Slipped- Up Shawl- This asymmetrical slip -stitch shawl with classic lines is a good introduction to two-color slip stitch technique.   It is done in fingering weight in all garter stitch with an I-cord edge.  Learn to keep tension and to follow the pattern.
