Class Descriptions

 

 Learning at Yarnings

 

Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.

 

Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.

 

Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 

 

And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!

 

 Private Lessons

We at Yarnings want you to find a learning environment that matches your style.  Our private lessons are inexpensive and offer a one-on-one session with one of our talented and friendly instructors.  These times can be tailored to your needs: beginning knitting or crochet, help finishing a particular project, help starting a project, help with a specific technique- it's all up to you!  Call us  to set up a time for you or a time for you and a friend!

 

Groups
 

 

Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.

Tuesday Morning Knit Group This group meets weekly for help and inspiration.  Join others who enjoy chatting and sharing projects.

Wednesday Night  Knit and Crochet Group – This group meets weekly and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen.

 Baby Surprise Jacket-This three session class will guide knitters through this classic knitting pattern.  The jacket knits up quickly, allowing knitters to grasp the unique shaping and construction.

Skill Level:                                  Advanced Beginner

 

Basic Brioche - This two-session class will teach the language and stitches of brioche knitting.  Students may choose to make a cowl or hat, using brioche in the round.  This class is also a great review for anyone who needs a refresher!

Cost:                                           $30

Skill Level:                               Intermediate

 

Basic Socks- This is the perfect introduction to sock knitting.  A traditional top down construction will be taught, including sizing, the heel turn and shaping, and the Kitchner stitch toe grafting technique.  Careful, this can be addictive!

Skill Level:                                Advanced Beginner

 

Beginning Knit- This two-session class will have you knitting stylish projects.  The knit and purl stitches will be taught, along with casting on stitches and binding off your work.  Learn this life-long craft!

Cost:                                              $30 

Dates/Time/Instructor:         Mondays, September 23 and 30 from 6:30-8 with Steph

Skill Level:                                   Absolute Beginner

 

Beginning Weaving- This introductory course covers all the basics of rigid heddle weaving.  Dressing the loom, yarn choices and yardage, weaving techniques, finishing , and design concepts are all presented.  This course is a great bargain!  Four weeks of instruction, the loom rental, and the first warp are all included in the price.  Come and try it out!

Brioche Shawl- Come and further explore  the world of brioche knitting.  This shawl, Books and Bridges, explores two-sided brioche knitting (knitted flat). Done in two colors, this shawl is designed to have brioche sections alternating with simple knit and purl stripes.  To be successful in  this class, the student should have knit in brioche previously.

Skill Level:                                  Intermediate, with some brioche knitting experience

 

Hollyday Hoopla- This class offers knitters two holiday themed projects- choose one or create both!  The first project is the Woolly Wreath by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas.  Knitters will learn the loopy stitch and work through the completion of the wreath.  The second is the Woolly Holly Leaf and Berries by Marie Mayhew Designs.  Learn basic shaping techniques while knitting the leaves and berries which are then felted and embellished.  The holly makes a festive table or door decoration.

Mabel Baby Sweater- Learn to knit this sweet and feminine girls' sweater.  The challenge in the piece is the eyelet border, which uses a series of knit and yarn over combinations to achieve the effect.  This is an enjoyable knit with little to no finishing!  Later, make an adult sweater to match!

Skill Level:                                 Advanced Beginner

 

Rainier Sweater Cast On Party- We are so honored to have Kate Gagnon Osborn as our guest instructor to introduce her design, Rainier, a cozy pullover.  Knit in Kelbourne Woolens Scout yarn, this sweater perfect for the cooler months and would make a perfect addition to a ski wardrobe.  Kate will help to choose the correct size from  the pattern, give tips and tricks for knitting the sweater, and give alternative neckline possibilities.  All this will be accomplished in a party atmosphere!  Come on in!

 Shift Cowl- This cowl makes a great accessory piece for fall!  The knitting includes easy increases and slipped stitches.  Shift into autumn with this engaging knit that wears like a triangle shawl without the fuss.

 Toe Up Socks- Try this alternate style of sock knitting!  Starting from the toe, this basic sock is fun to knit and requires no grafting!!  This method also prevents running out of yarn on the second leg.  Join us!
