Class Descriptions


Learnings at Yarnings


Lots of choices! Lots of fun! Learn new skills in our small, friendly classes. Just check your skill level, select a class and call the shop to reserve your space.


In case of cancellation, store credit will be issued up to 48 hours before the first class session.


Absolute Beginner: Is brand new to craft.


Beginner: Knows the long tail cast on, knit, purl and bind off. For crocheting, knows single, half double, and double crochet stitches along with the slipstitch.


Advanced Beginner: Knows shaping, seaming and has followed some patterns and understands gauge.


Intermediate: Has completed a garment and has done some stitch work. 


And, remember, we ask that Yarnings supplies be used in Yarnings classes. It only makes sense!






Friday Morning Knit Group – Bring along any knitting project for a little help while socializing with others. If you know in advance that you plan to attend this group, please call the store to let us know.

Skill Level:                                Beginner to Intermediate


Mary Beth’s Open Knit Group- This group meets once a month and is for beginning and intermediate knitters. Mary Beth is available for help with projects that students have chosen. The atmosphere is light and social 


Cost:                                       $10 per Session


Time/Date/Instructor:          Saturdays: March 1, April 19 & Sunday April 27 from 10-12

Saturday Morning Knit Group – This group usually meets twice a month and is for beginner to intermediate level knitters. Students get help with projects they have chosen while socializing with other knitters. Please call the store to check on available spots for this class.

Thursday Open Knit with Kathleen – This group meets on Thursdays from 11-1. Bring a project and have your questions answered while making new knitting friends.

Astrid Shawl – While making this fun, flirty shawl, you will learn how to make bobbles, pick up stitches, and use short rows for shaping.

Skill Level:                             Advanced Beginner




Beginning Crochet – A three-session course that teaches the basics of crochet- chaining ,single crochet, double crochet, and triple crochet. Simple finishing skills and pattern symbols will be featured

Skill Level:                              Absolute Beginner




Beginner Knit for Adults- A two- session class for the very beginning knitter. You will learn to cast on, the knit stitch, purl stitch, and to cast off. You will also have the opportunity to see and try some combinations of knit and purl.


Cost:                                          $30.00 (two session), $20 (single session)

Building Blocks Continues – Refine your knitting skills while creating a beautiful sampler blanket, one square at a time. The building blocks blanket is knit in 12 blocks. Each block focuses on a different skill including cables, lace, textural patterns and more. There will be a different block taught each month. Just sign up for each session as it is offered.

Building in Color – If you loved Building Blocks, you will love Building in Color. This is a course designed to help you master the basics of color knitting one strip at a time. Intarsia, knit below, mosaic knitting, and elongated stitch patterns are some of the skills taught.  Move at your own pace and watch your blanket grow!

Bunny Class – It’s our favorite class ever! This adorable, easy knit bunny is the perfect baby shower gift or Easter Grammy gift. The possibilities are endless! It all starts with a rectangle!

Skill Level:                              Beginner


Button Making Workshop  Join us for a polymer button class that includes the following: basics on working with polymer clay; creating an impression that is dressed up with color; and sealing and finishing techniques. Make buttons in any size or shape that suits the project on your table – or one you are dreaming of working on next. Class kit includes all you will need to create at least one dozen buttons. Bring along a task lamp, magnifying glasses (if you like to work with them), pen and paper for taking notes, any rubber stamps that have a deep impression and a creative spirit. If you have a clay-dedicated pasta machine, bring that along too.

Cotton Medium Brim Hat- Make this simple and adorable hat for the sunny weather that we know will come! Worked in the round, this hat will teach increasing, decreasing, and common hat construction. You’ll be ready for the beach1

Playful Stripes Baby Cardigan – This class is a great chance to learn garment shaping and construction on a small scale. You’ll be a hit at the baby shower, too!

Lots O’Socks - This beginner sock class teaches sock-making at its finest! Everything from use of double- pointed needles, ribbing, and the dreaded (not anymore!!) turning of the heel. It’s easier than you think! You’ll even learn the kitchener stitch, a versatile finishing skill. Come get cozy!

Tea and Skeins – Enjoy an Irish tea and goodies while knitting a cabled tea cozy. Learn knitting in the round and cabling technique in style!
